A Note from Kay, THSC Leader Liaison
There's nothing like a run through the sprinkler on a hot summer day. The thought that the heat is somehow placed at bay by running barefoot in the sticker-laden grass through a spotty mist of water I am certain was created by my grandmother in an attempt to avoid having to purchase a cattle trough for my brother and me to swim in. We had fun, nonetheless, and so my children follow in my footsteps, except they really do swim in that cattle trough I mentioned.
More than the heat, summer is a time for refreshment, renewal, and relaxation. For support group leaders it is also a time for strategic planning. The last of the events are over, budgets are winding down, and after a quick glass of tea, it seems as if it is time to begin again. So, how do we make the best of our downtime?
This month's featured article, "The Importance of Weekly and Daily Planning," was written by a guest author and posted on Stepcase.com. As your school year comes to a close and the warmth of summer creeps in, take this time to look at your procedures, budgets, bylaws and web content. Make it a point to get together as leadership team to define your goals for the upcoming year and put them in writing. Take a look at the things that worked well, and change the things that did not. Most of all, enjoy this time of planning and renewal, and take an occasional run through the sprinkler.

As a self-employed mother of a toddler, I fully understand the value of planning. My busy life puts me in the position where daily and weekly planning are essential to create enough time to spend with my son while still succeeding in my home-based business. I plan my days and weeks carefully to include time for my family, business, and health concerns. This allows me to create a clear path for myself that maintains a healthy balance of work and play. In this article I will share with you the reasons why daily and weekly planning is so important, and I will also give you some of the strategies that I use for achieving my goals.

Social Waters
June's Question:
Our group is looking to make our meetings and our budget more professional. What format is the best to follow?
___________________
Are there any summer camps specifically for home school students?
Answer:
To find ideas for summer camps for home school students, your best bet is word of mouth. Ask a buddy or fellow home school family, or do a simple search. T Bar M, the 2011 teen sponsor for our leadership conference, hosts a wonderful selection of summer camps for all ages. A to Z Home's Cool Homeschooling also provides a list of summer camps for home school students. Another suggestion is to contact local businesses for summer camp options. Most of the time, museums, art classes, sports groups, and colleges in your area will all have some sort of activities for students during the summer hours. Although not all camps will have times specifically for home school students, most will offer a variety of activities sure to provide a learning opportunity for your student!
